Gala 2023 Supports Cancer Care

The Adventist Health White Memorial Gala 2023 was held on October 29 at the historic Vibiana.
Attendees included Adventist Health White Memorial leadership, elected officials, business leaders and community residents, all celebrating the theme “TOGETHER INSPIRED. WE CAN SAVE LIVES,” a call to action that highlighted the event’s goals to raise funds for the cancer center and honor the commitment of community partners.

Gala co-chairs Gina Orozco, Vice President of Gas Engineering and System Integrity at Southern California Gas Co., and Elizabeth Martinez, Vice President of Business Development at Meruelo Enterprises Inc., curated an atmosphere where optimism was felt and seen. The ambiance, enhanced by the flutter of butterflies symbolizing hope, beautifully echoed the event’s theme.

Gala Honors

Oscar De La Hoya’s Lifetime Achievement Award speaks volumes about his philanthropic legacy. He is a supporter and a creator, establishing the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center in honor of his late mother and other Adventist Health White Memorial healthcare units that have saved countless lives.

Bank of America, our Community Partner of the Year, has been instrumental in nurturing the next generation of medical professionals. Their sustained commitment over three decades has ignited the medical career ambitions of more than 2,000 young people from our neighborhoods.

Our Person of the Year, Javier Angulo, Senior Director of Community Relations at Walmart and immediate past board chair, exemplifies advocacy and unity. Adventist Health White Memorial has thrived with Angulo’s philanthropic support and his calm leadership, guiding us through adversity and trailblazing a path forward.

The Gala Fund-A-Need raised over $800,000 to support and enhance the lifesaving resources of the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center. Investments in cancer care are critical, enabling us to offer cutting-edge treatments and compassionate support to those in need, ensuring our community’s health and resilience. Every gift received was a testament to the compassion that thrives within our community.
