Honoring Sally Acosta’s Remarkable Volunteer Service

Sally Acosta embodies the heart and soul of the Volunteer Ambassadors Program at Adventist Health White Memorial Montebello. At 99 years old, her story, rooted in East Los Angeles and Montebello, is a beautiful portrait of dedication and service. 

Acosta joined the Beverly Hospital Guild as a volunteer in 1995 after she retired from her career in the banking industry. She found a new purpose in volunteering.  

With her signature arts and crafts cart filled with handmade items for sale, Acosta brings creativity and generosity to her volunteer service. The proceeds from her cart support the hospital by funding essential supplies. Her cart efforts, along with other sources of revenue, fundraisers and gift shop proceeds, helped raise $50,000 in 2019 alone. 

“It gives me a reason to get up and help the hospital continue to serve the community,” Acosta said. “I am happy to volunteer. Everyone is so friendly, and it keeps me going.” 

Her impact goes beyond her financial contributions; her presence is a gift. Her radiant smile and infectious enthusiasm lift the spirits of everyone around her. She is greeted by associates and patients with a warm, “Hello Sally!” because of the joy and positivity she brings to others. 

Today, the Volunteer Ambassadors program at Adventist Health White Memorial Montebello is a continuation of the Beverly Hospital Guild, founded at Beverly Hospital in 1952. Acosta and her fellow Volunteer Ambassadors reflect a long tradition of service, bridging the rich history of our institution with the future and our ongoing commitment to community care. 

With heartfelt gratitude, we honor Acosta for her remarkable contributions and the joy she brings to Adventist Health White Memorial Montebello.
