SoCalGas Partners with Adventist Health White Memorial to Address Food Insecurity

The Adventist Health White Memorial Community Resource Center was honored to receive a generous $40,000 grant from our longtime community partner, SoCalGas, to address food insecurity. This grant is a significant step in our ongoing commitment to holistically improve our community’s health and well-being.

“SoCalGas’ donation to Adventist Health White Memorial Charitable Foundation is part of our 2023 Fueling Our Communities $4 million initiative to address food insecurity through partnerships with food banks and nonprofits throughout our 12-county service area in Central and Southern California. Partnering with Adventist Health White Memorial Charitable Foundation was an easy choice because of their reach and positive impact for the wellness of the communities they serve in East Los Angeles and beyond,” said Gina Orozco, Vice President of Gas Engineering and System Integrity at SoCalGas, who also serves on the Adventist Health White Memorial Charitable Foundation board of directors.

On October 19, SoCalGas’ Claudia Andrade, Andy Carrasco and Gina Orozco toured the Community Resource Center to see the Prema Pantry and Fresh Produce program and the bustling farmers market it supports. The visit culminated in a heartwarming check presentation.

The Prema Pantry and Fresh Produce Program is a vital resource pantry in East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights. The program provides nonperishable foods and essential items like diapers, blankets, and toiletry kits to diverse recipients, including expectant mothers, Medi-Cal recipients, seniors and the unhoused.

This new grant will allow the Community Resource Center to formalize our pantry and food distribution efforts and expand our community impact. Goals include:

• Strengthen the patient safety net by addressing food insecurity.

• Expand the range of items to include clothing and hygiene products.

• Extend community wellness vouchers that can be redeemed for fresh produce and vegetables at our weekly farmers market to more community members.
