Walmart grants Community Resource Center $25,000 to combat food insecurity
Walmart’s grant for the Prema Pantry Program, managed by the Adventist Health White Memorial Community Resource Center, takes a significant step toward fighting food insecurity in East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights. The funding is pivotal in ensuring nutritional access, which is critical to both individual health and community well-being.
Why It Matters:
The Prema Pantry program, a vital resource pantry for Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles, provides nonperishable foods and essential items like diapers, blankets and toiletry kits to a wide range of recipients, including expectant mothers, Medi-Cal recipients, seniors, and the unhoused.
Prema Pantry Program Goals:
- Help more people get the care and support they need by ensuring that even those with less money can still access food and important health services.
- Expand the range of items to include clothing and hygiene products
- Extend community wellness vouchers that can be redeemed by more community members at White Memorial’s weekly farmers market.
