Donors Fund New Equipment Philanthropic Giving Saves Lives

Did you know that cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally, disproportionately affecting Latina and African American women?

To eliminate this racial disparity, it is essential to provide access to culturally competent preventative care and adequate cervical cancer screening within the context of a trusting patient-provider relationship.

Adventist Health White Memorial’s OB/GYN Residency Program, a cornerstone of our women’s health services, has significantly upgraded its patient care and teaching capabilities by purchasing a new teaching colposcope and laptop. This new equipment, which replaces tools that were 40 years old, cost $7,250 and was funded through philanthropic giving.

 Why it Matters

With our new colposcope, Adventist Health White Memorial OB/GYNs and residents can perform a colposcopy, a procedure essential for the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer. A colposcope is a specialized magnifying device used during a colposcopy to capture crystal-clear, detailed images of the cervix, enhancing our caregivers’ ability to diagnose conditions early. This, in turn, leads to timely treatment and increases the chances of successful outcomes.

Additionally, this advanced equipment elevates the training of our OB/GYN residents. Working with state-of-the-art tools makes them proficient in handling complex medical procedures. They can also offer compassionate support during sensitive examinations, building trust and empowering our female patients to participate in their health decisions.

Your philanthropic support is critical in helping Adventist Health White Memorial (AHWM) expand and enhance comprehensive community healthcare. We are deeply grateful to all our associates who give and bring hope and healing to our community.

“Dr. Erica Givens, the colposcopy faculty and I are grateful for the AHWM Charitable Foundation’s support for resident education in cervical cancer screening, evaluation, and treatment.”
